Content marketing is the most time-consuming responsibility of content marketers today. When you break down your daily workflow, creating great content is our main responsibility, and it is the best way for us to interact with our audience and influence revenue. Not to mention this is how we make money.
What is it?
Content marketing is a marketing technique used to create and distribute valuable, relevant and consistent content in order to attract and gain a clearly defined audience with the purpose of driving profitable customer behavior.
Since content can take many forms-blog posts, videos, e-books, Tweets, infographics, advertisements, to name a few-the content creation process is subtle and not always as simple as it seems. But doing it well can have a real impact on your business. In fact, recent research proves that creating high-quality educational content increases your business sales.
Brainstorming
Content ideas can come from various places, including within the content team, customers, other stakeholders in the company, new data or things that inspire you. Moreover, depending on the content’s goal, determining the correct angle for a particular topic can be challenging.
Planning
Similar to traditional marketing activities, your content strategy should be centered on marketing goals (and marketing goals should be derived from company goals).
Create a content plan.

Define a buyer persona
Remember that you are marketing to humans who want to feel connected with your content. You need to know who you are presenting this content to.
We recommend that you ask yourself the following questions during the planning stage:
-
- What persona am I targeting with this content?
- How much time and money can I spend to produce this content?
- What additional help or resources do I need (designers to create diagrams, video producers to shoot scripts, etc.) to implement my vision?
- How does this piece of content fit into my grand plan of content strategy?
- Which audiences or customer groups does this content help?
After you have your plan in place, you can start creating your content.
Create
Now that you are ready with the planning stage. It’s time to get going on your masterpiece.
When writing, shooting, designing, or producing works, remember that content creation is a dynamic process. If you find a problem with the angle or content format you decided to use, please don’t be afraid step back or change ideas. The process should be smooth and may need to be adjusted as you get new information about your customers and audience.
Post
Once your content has been published to the wider world, please be patient. However, don’t forget that the content creation process from the idea to execution is ongoing. A good content strategy requires a solid creation process, as well as pre-release and post-release promotional plans. As a content marketer, your job is to view every content throughout the process. Therefore, it is equally important not to let the creation process deviate from the post-release distribution and promotion strategy. And, as always, learn from your successes and mistakes. Every content you create is an experiment. By properly monitoring and measuring its performance, you will be able to know which method is effective for you and your organization. When you restart the creation process for the next content, use this knowledge to inform your work.
